The Espanita Homeowners Association Annual Meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. April 14th at Spring Creek Barbeque. Mark the date on your calendar.  All current members of the Association and immediate family members are invited to attend the meeting, where you can meet your neighbors, participate in the election of Association officers and enjoy a free barbeque meal.  In order to be eligible to vote at the annual meeting and to enjoy the free meal, all member dues must be current.  Dues may be paid at the door.

We have invited mayoral candidates to address the membership at the meeting.  This is a very busy time for the candidates, and they have another event at 7 p.m., so we suggest you be at Spring Creek promptly at 6 p.m.

A slate of candidates for all offices (except president) will be presented at the meeting.  The nominations are not done to limit membership on the board, but because it has historically been difficult to recruit willing candidates at the meeting.  We hope for broad participation from the membership and encourage additional nominations from the floor by the general membership.

As noted above the president is not elected at the meeting.  In accordance with the by-laws, the First Vice President automatically succeeds to the office.  This year Judy Hula, long time Espanita resident and board member, will become President with the election of the new board.

Again this year we will be making monthly selections of the outstanding Espanita Yard of the Month.  The winner each month will have a sign in the yard and a cash prize.  You do not have to be a member of the Association to win; however the cash prize is $25 for non-member households, $50 for members.

Work is continuing on the 3,000 square foot, $550,000 Spray Ground Facility scheduled to open Memorial Day, May 30, 2011 in our park.  A Spray Ground, for those not up on the latest recreational facilities, is like the sprinklers we used to run through as kids, raised about two orders of magnitude in complexity and fun.  It will have multiple children activated spray arrangements and configurations and places to play.

You are invited to visit the Espanita Homeowners Association web site by entering http://espanitahomes.org in your address bar or simply use google or yahoo to take you to espanitahomes.org.

The Grand Opening of the new Irving Northwest Branch Library will take place on April 9 at 10 a.m.  The ultra-modern building will be Texas’ first LEED certified net zero energy library.  It is located at Esters and Rochelle; see it to appreciate it.
